Postcard size, slightly faded black and white full studio portrait photograph of James Harwood, Durham Light Infantry in uniform, standing to attention. James wears cap with Durham Light Infantry badge, tunic, pants, puttees and boots. Behind is a painted backdrop depicting staircase with ornate rail, large window, large elaborate curtains, and small pot plant. Letter to his ‘bros’ hand-written on back: ‘Dear Bros/Just a line or two hoping to find you well as it leaves us at home in time of writing. We didn’t receive any letters from you this week. You will know the chap on this photo. I think he had a week-end off and he got our Tommy to take this photo. Jim says it is alright where he is at but you know he cannot say anything else now. We will send one on to our Lizzie next week, a photo. I will close with Best Love From Mother. / Jack (Jim)'. On reverse, stamp box bears logo that reads ‘K LTD’, and printed lettering in German and French: ‘POST CARD/ CARTE POSTALE- POSTKARTE/ Communication Mitteilungen – Correspondance Address – Adresse’
