SUITCASE, black, leather trim & straps

Long, tall, rectangular, black with tan leather trim, corners, straps and handle, silver coloured metal buckles, secures, clasps, hinges and feet, multi-coloured travel labels on front and sides, suitcase. Front: plain black leather, with tan trim/piping, single stitched with semi-circular corner pieces, secured with two circular metal secures at each side (four in total). Group of travel labels in centre. Largest has a light/white background with blue text, reads ‘NORTHS/ R.P. NORTH COY. PTY. LTD./ 124-126 WELSHPOOL ROAD, WELSHPOOL/ WESTERN AUSTRALIA/ Branch Office:/ 23 PAKENHAM STREET FREMANTLE/ WESTERN AUSTRALIA/ PHONES: 5 1195 (2 LINES)/ WESTERN AUSTRALIA/… S… FREEDEN/ … STANWIX/… BOX…0/ JOHANNESBURG/ S. AFRICA/ …NICIPAL PORTS OF THE WORLD/ DURBAN’. Smaller label at top of front, black and red ships funnel, reads ‘T.S.M.V. DUNTROON/ PASSENGERS LUGGAGE’. Smaller label at lower left of front, light blue background, red oval shaped border, with large ship motif reads ‘CANA…IAN PA…’.
Left side (when facing front): plain black leather, with tan trim/piping, single stitched with semi-circular corner pieces, secured with two circular metal secures at each side (four in total). Four small travels labels, from top; 1. White background with red text, reads ‘AIR FREIGHT TO/ PERTH/ AIR SERVICES/ 26 [in pencil] Lbs/ Weight’. 2. Small fragment of label, green background with white text, ‘ICH’ [Zurich?]. 3. Cream/yellow background with red text ‘LAGGAGE… MS/ MULLAL & BYRNE/ PROPY LTD/ 9 QUEEN ST/ MELBOURNE’. 4. White top, green bottom, torn, ‘LUGGAGE/ … DNEY Luggage Roo…/ PERTH/ Date………..’. Labels very worn, torn, ‘oily look, faded/discoloured.
Right side: Mirrors construction of left. Three labels, top to bottom; 1. Largely handwritten, fragmented, in German, ‘müglichst an…/ …d ein Doppel…/…egen!/ …Brinni…/ … nnover/ …/ An. Canadi…/ in Hamb…/…’. Very discoloured. 2. Coloured triangular corners, light background, reads ‘Hamburg Hbf’. 3. Light background with dark text, reads ‘18a./ W.A.G.R. – Passenger/ PERTH/ Passenger’s Name………’.
Top: Wide, tan leather straps, from base to top, each side, around front and secured with flat leather loops to buckle. Loops double stitched, buckles secured with leather anchors. Anchors secured with two circular metal tacks. Central, thick, hard, structured leather handle with single line of stitch detail. Leather, arrow-head shaped anchors for handle, secured by metal tacks. Handle attached to anchors with square, open, silver coloured metal brackets. Rectangular metal key locks at each end, flat with raised rounded rim, connected to triangular shaped, hinged clasps.
Reverse: Plain black patent leather, with six silver coloured metal ‘feet’ , three each side.
Base: Plain, leather straps secured with metal tacks, single metal hinge in centre, three feet (two on right, one of left, fourth missing), with a total of twelve metal tacks, six each on top and bottom, either side of hinge.
