REPORT Forests of Western Australia 1896

H1991.32

1986 Report on the Forests of Western Australia. The contents of the first part of the report are divided into 17 sections They range over a variety of subjects which include: the principal trees and their use, value of forests, the timber export and import trade and proposed new timber regulations. The second part of the report consists of photographic plates. The photo plates include different types of trees and scenes of the timber industry. There is also a foldout map at the end of the report possibly of the State forests. This has not been looked at by me because the paper is very fine and brittle and could possibly tear. On the front of the report is the following information in faded black ink: "1896 / WESTERN AUSTRALIA. / REPORT / ON THE / FORESTS OF DESC TURE MANAGEMENT / WITH / PLAN AND ILLUSTRATIONS, / BY / J. EDNIE- BROWN, F.L.S., F.R.H.S.". Below this is the following in small print: "CONSERVATOR OF FORESTS FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIA. / (LATE CONSERVATOR OF FORESTS FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA AND DIRECTOR GENERAL OF FORESTS IN NEW SOUTH WALES.) / PRESENTED TO BOTH HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT by HIS EXCELLENCY'S COMMAND. / PERTH: / BY AUTHORITY: RICHARD PETHER, GOVERNMENT PRINTER / 1896 ". In the top left hand corner of the report is a blue stamp of the following print* "WITH THE CONSERVATOR OF FORESTS' / COMPLIMENTS. / PERTH, W.A." The report, along with various other items was found in a time capsule beneath the steps of the Geraldton Courthouse.
