TEMPLATE, Badgemaking

H1991.119

Template used for badgemaking by Sheridan's For Badges. Zinc photographic plates were obtained by the company from West Australian Newspapers on which badge designs were etched in the 1960 to mid 1970's. On this plate, five women can be discerned, standing on stairs facing the camera, with another on the right, looking toward the group. A window and doorway are behind. On the blue coloured reverse, a badge pattern has been etched comprising three concentric circles. In the border section formed, "SHIRE OF / MANDURAH" is etched with "W" at one side and "A" at the other. In the middle section, "UNAE MENTIS / COMMON SEAL". Two dolphins dominate the centre of the template with the eight points of the compass behind. The blue coloured reverse of the plate bears part of a larger printed design with small black arrows and a section of a circle with the letter "Y". Zinc plates were used for templates in the 1960's to about 1975, then magnesium until around 1983 when acetate was used.
