TEMPLATE, Badgemaking

H1991.132

Template used for badgemaking by Sheridan's For Badges. Zinc photographic plates were obtained by the company from West Australian Newspapers on which badge designs were etched in the 1960s to mid 1970's. On this plate, two figures in uniform with rifles can be discerned, possibly with taught parachute lines or ropes extending upward. The blue coloured other side has been rubbed back to the metal in the central area and a badge design marked on it in the shape of the state of Western Australia. Down the coastline section, "MAORI" has been engraved and down the Eastern border of the map, "CLUB". Dominating the badge pattern, at the centre of the outlined state, is a Maori tiki, and across the top, "W.A". The blue coloured reverse of the plate bears part of a larger design printed in black. For business details see H91.0117. Zinc plates were used for templates in the 1960's to about 1975, then magnesium until around 1983 when acetate was used.
