BADGE, HAT, Royal Australian Army Dental Corps

H1989.74

Gilt brass badge, hollow oval of leaves with a queen's crown at the top and a scroll at the bottom bearing the legend "ROYAL / AUST. ARMY DENTAL / CORPS". In the centre is a dragon's head with a sword in its mouth in white metal riveted to the brass badge. Welded to the back of the badge are two brass loops so that the badge can be fixed to a hat, cap or beret. This type of badge was accepted by the Australian Army in 1955 for wear by the Royal Australian Army Dental Corps. It was replaced in the late 1960s by a badge of the same design but made of an anodized plastic. This particular badge was found in the drawer of Ken Rout's dental cabinet H88.306 in Sept. 1988.
