BADGE, R.A.C

H1992.5

Silver badge with dark blue centre across which are initials "R A C"; crown on top and in small letters across base, in blue, "W.A". Reverse is marked "SHERIDAN / WEST. AUSTRALIA". Catch is of the stick-pin type. Badge available to members of the Royal Automobile Club of WA (Inc) for $9.99. First members from 1910 received numbered badges but this quickly became impractical as membership increased. These brass, oval badges bore the initials ACWA (Automobile Club of Western Australia). A second, circular badge from 1915 incorporated a crown and the club's name in full but without the word "Royal". A third badge was introduced in 1922 after permission was gained to use the "Royal" prefix, and "W.A" substituted for "Western Australia".
