Born in 1888, Mr Stephens moved to Kalgoorlie with his family in 1902. He later began working in a barber's shop (with living quarters) at 13 Hannan Street. He eventually bought the shop, where he lived and continued to practise his trade. He never married, nor did he ever go prospecting. In 1987 the premises were demolished to make way for the new Museum of the Goldfields; Mr Stephens had moved to the Kalgoorlie Nursing Home by this time. Most personal effects from his house were accessioned into the collection at this time. All have 3 buttonholes at hem; horizontal, vertical, horizontal. All are white. a. Also has 2 button holes at lapels and once had a button at the throat; has extra buttonhole. b. also has "2 253" stamped on hem, all buttonholes are horizontal. c. Has straight rather than pointed lapel. d. as a. but has "... 14 1/2 Taco". Has most pointed lapel.
