TABLE CENTRE, Embroidered

H1989.736

Square table centre, light brown and embroidered with pink and green poppies, done for exhibition. Comprises 6 poppy blooms with leaves and buds in a circular design with Roman cutwork trellis. Edges are hand buttonholed to resemble crochet and have two rows of green stitching. Violet exhibited this piece at 144 localities in six states during 22 years. Its greatest triumph was its championship at Perth Royal Show in 1954 but it also won prizes at Wanneroo in 1957, Nungarin in 1960, Northam 1962, Harvey 1966, Cannington 1972, Wagin 1973 and Meckering in 1974. It was completed when Violet was about 50 years of age; she retired from exhibiting in 1976 due to failing eye-sight. Certificates accessioned under H89.1049.
