CUSHION COVER, Jacobean

Jacobean cushion cover worked in three shades of blue on fawn coloured lystav material. The design is stylised flowers and leaves, probably an English transfer. Stitches include couching, satin stitch, French knots, chain stitch, lazy daisy, buttonhole, lace and filling-in stitches. This detailed work took Violet only one month to complete - about 40 hours of embroidering time. During its 17 years of showing, the cushion cover was entered at 45 localities, winning 31 firsts (including one at Perth in 1961), 7 seconds and one third. Certificates accessioned under H89.1052.
