BOXES, for Theodolites

H1988.336.a-b

Former Kalgoorlie Mining Associates property. Used to transport theodolites; either underground or between destinations. Green painted boxes shaped like flat-topped pyramids. All four sides of interior are heavily padded. Door is screwed shut by two screws; there is a padlock for extra security; a. still has padlock and one screw. Both have "WILD / HERBRUGG" stencilled on door. a. also has on door "HENDERSON INSTRUMENT COMPANY PTY. LTD. / COMPLETE INSTRUMENTATION FOR INDUSTRY AND RESEARCH / 309 HAY ST..." sticker has handwriting: "GOLD MINES OF KALGOORLIE, / FIMISTON". There are 2 W.A.G.R. freight stamps, $1.00 and 50c marked "SUBIACO" a. has stencilled, and b. remnants of sticker which reads "PRECISION INSTRUMENT / PLEASE / Handle with grate care". This instruction is also written in French and Dutch[?]. b. has 3 W.A.G.R. freight stamps 10/-, 5/-, 2/- covered with remnants of the Fragile sticker.
