(a) Black leather shoe with fawn felt and canvas (lining) on top. Fasten with pearl buttons. Label 'KEMBER & CO./ 151 KNIGHTSBRIDGE S.W.' Out of fashion by 1930's.
(b) In 3 pieces with brass pull ring. Marked for left and right shoes. Ref. Mansfield & Cunnington, 'Handbook of English Costume in the 20th Century', p.292. fig.189b.
Additional information supplied by June Swann, world authority on historic shoes visiting from UK, during her inspection of shoe collection 18th October 1993.
Polished sole; technically Balmoral boots. Are formal. Made in London. Bottom was patent leather - has lost some of its gloss. Owned by somebody with money. Close to 1910.
