Long Tan Memorial Lecture- The Naval War in Vietnam

Sat 18 Aug 2018

2:00pm3:30pm

WA Maritime Museum

Join us for this special lecture led by Museum volunteer Garry Coombe. Garry will discuss his own Royal Australian Navy experience during two tours in Vietnamese waters between 1968 and 1971 on the HMAS Perth.

While the armies of five nations participated in the war in Vietnam, the navies of only two countries—the United States and Australia—participated in the war at sea.

While their contribution was significant, and vital to the war effort, it was overshadowed by the ground war.

This presentation includes photographs taken during actual operations including many taken by the Presenter on the gun line in both North and South Vietnam.

This lecture is held on the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, widely regarded as the commemorative date for Australian Vietnam veterans.

This is a free* event but bookings are essential. To book email reception@museum.wa.gov.au or call 1300 134 081,

*Entry fees to the WA Maritime Museum applies if you wish to explore the Museum afterwards.
