Set in northern Norway in 1852, this film explores one of the most dramatic episodes in northern Scandinavian history.

The native Sami population and their reindeers have inhabited the windswept mountain plateau of northern Scandinavia. Modernization presses in on the desolate village of Kautokeino where a wealthy and ruthless liquor dealer exploits the debts of one of the native tribes.

When frontier injustice sees the liquor baron withhold the tribe’s livelihood–their reindeer–to settle their owings, the situation explodes in rebellion.

(English subtitles. Parental guidance recommended.)

Winner of four 2008 Norwegian Amanda film awards (Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design and Best Score).
