Come along to the WA Museum - Shipwreck Galleries on Saturday 20 August and meet some of our experts in the field of maritime archaeology and photography.

Patrick Baker is a world renowned specialist in maritime archaeology photography and will lead a tour of the Batavia Gallery, describing his experiences, equipment, and the photographic techniques he has used in recording the Batavia shipwreck below and above water.

Dr Michael McCarthy, Curator, Maritime Archaeology

Meet maritime archaeologist Dr Michael (Mack) McCarthy as he shares the remarkable story of the SS Xantho. Arguably the Western Australian Museum's greatest conservation feat and its most significant steamship wreck: an engine underwater for over 100 years that can still be turned over takes us to not only our greatest colonial entrepreneurs and feminist relatives, but also to 3D recording and printing!
