Fremantle Seafood Festival at the WA Museum – Shipwreck Galleries Sat 27 Feb 2016 – Sun 28 Feb 2016 10:00am – 5:00pm WA Shipwrecks Museum Visit the Western Australian Museum – Shipwreck Galleries on Saturday 27 February and Sunday 28 February as we join the port city celebrating the 2016 IGA Fremantle Seafood Festival! Join a special guided tour of the Shipwreck Galleries, which is recognised as the foremost maritime archaeology museum in the Southern Hemisphere. Follow journeys of early Dutch explorers from Dirk Hartog (celebrating 400 years ago this year that he set foot WA) to Willem de Vlamingh, through our amazing collection of early charts, documents and books. The original pewter plate left by de Vlamingh in 1697 is also on permanent display. Discover numerous artefacts from ships wrecked along WA's reef-strewn coastline and view the spectacular timbers of the Dutch ship Batavia – infamous for the mutiny and murder of half its passengers and crew in 1629. Check out the Festival Village located on the Shipwreck Galleries forecourt showcasing a wide variety of exhibitors with food and wine for tasting and sale from 10.00am to 5.00pm.
