Pantjiti Mackenzie teaches weaving at Dreaming Festival 2010.

Presented by WA Museum in association with Tjanpi Desert Weavers and NPY Women's Council

Come and sit with women from Tjanpi Desert Weavers and learn how to make a grass basket the ‘bush’ way. Enjoy swapping stories and learning language with these renowned Aboriginal fibre artists from Central Australia.

We are celebrating the launch weekend of the exhibition Pampa Mara Tjanpi: Tjanpi works by elderly women from the Ngaanyatjarra Lands with a fantastic workshop opportunity. Join us for a shared experience with visiting desert weavers as they share culture, and demonstrate traditional coiled basket making skills to the group. The success of Tjanpi weaving workshops lies in their informal nature. They are as much about spending time with desert women as they are about learning basket making skills. Once everyone has found the rhythm of the craft there is plenty of opportunity to share stories and learn a little bit of language (Ngaanyatjarra).
