Enjoy a range of activities as we welcome Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company for a performance of Bilya Kaatijin and Justin Martin from Djurandi Dreaming for a ‘yarning & painting’ art workshop, with more craft and games fun for families to enjoy on the day. Bilya Kaatijin — A performance presented by Yirra Yaakin Bilya Kaatijin (which means “Fresh Water Knowledge” in Nyoongar) is the fourth and final story in Yirra Yaakin’s Kaatijin series. Connecting stories from Nyoongar land (south-west Western Australia) to Wonguktha land (the northern Goldfields), Aotearoa (New Zealand) and the Kikuyu people of Kenya, Bilya Kaatijin teaches us about the importance of water to First Nations people around the world. Journeying through global Dreaming stories, the show teaches its audiences about the importance of accepting others, the power of empathy and the impact of climate change on the land and the Nyoongar seasons. Yarning and Painting — Djurandi Dreaming Workshop Join Djurandi Dreaming artist Justin Martin for the interactive art workshop, 'Yarning and Painting'. Children and families who attend will learn about stories and symbols in Nyoongar art while contributing to a large group canvas.
