Discover how rainbows happen and why sunrises and sunsets are so spectacular. Experience the wonder of the lens, one of the most amazing inventions of the modern world, and use light and shade to create masterpieces. Discovery Centre 26 September – 11 October 10am – 4.30pm Venture into the Discovery Centre and take on the laser prism challenge or create a lustrous photo sun print using light sensitive paper. Make a spectacular kaleidoscope, paint a vibrant stained glass mosaic, and check out magical rainbows of colour with our light box and prisms. Through the genius of the lens, you can even delve into the microscopic world with our video microscope. See magical rainbow colours in blowing bubbles. Create an edible rainbow using marshmallows and fruit loops. Hear the Noongar story of the rainbow serpent and paint rainbow colours on our colourful snake. Cost: $7 Ages: 0-5 Bookings: required Painting with Light Thursday 1 October and Wednesday 7 October 10.30am – 12.30pm Use the camera in our Samsung tablets to capture and create your own unique framed montage of landscape images. Take photos with the expert assistance of ACE Camera Club and then apply simple filters to give your images a personal pizzazz. Finally, print your work which will dazzle on your wall at home! Cost: $7 Ages: 8 – 14 Bookings: required Sensational Sun Painting Friday 2 October and Friday 9 October 10.30am – 12pm Create shimmering designs on a fabric bag using special light sensitive paint, add fascinating shapes and then harness most powerful light in our universe- the sun. Cost: $7 Age: 5 – 10 Bookings: required Snapping the past Thursday 8 October 10.30am – 12.30pm Bring your camera on an old-time walk around Albany’s historic Stirling Terrace. You will learn how to take interesting and unusual photos of heritage buildings, and hear stories about their history from experts. Then download your photos and choose the best to be digitally displayed at the WA Museum – Albany. This activity will be run in conjunction with ACE Camera Club.
