Beacons, Breakers and Barnacles
Join the Discovery Centre team for a journey back in time to life on a remote Lighthouse island! Take the lighthouse keeper’s lunch challenge to see if you have the skill to land the keeper’s lunch safely across the rolling seas before the greedy seagulls get it; learn all about the secret life of waves and how important they are to making your favourite beach a great place to be; and discover what sort of creature with no heart, lungs or gills lives in our shallow waters - you’ll be surprised to learn who their relatives are!

Time: 10am - 4.30pm daily
Ages: All ages          
Cost: Most free, however some activities incur a small materials cost.

Sun, Sand and Surprises
Discover the intertidal zone with us at Middleton Beach! Use you detective skills to uncover the many fascinating creatures that inhabit the beach and rock pools. Don’t forget to bring along a hat and water, we’ll bring the sunscreen!

Silver Gull – Dydjeenak (Especially for the juniors)
This naughty bird likes to swim and squawk. Do you know where they go each night and who goes with them? Watch out they might steal your fish and chips if you’re not careful - find out how the clever lighthouse keepers kept theirs safe!

Beacons by the Sea
Take a look at the intriguing history of lighthouses! Discover how each light has an individual signal and how a small light can be turned into a strong beam seen across many kilometres then create your own beacon by the sea.
