At Mawson’s living quarters at Cape Denison the waste deposited arouses mixed feelings among visitors to the site. Ian Godfrey - a ‘tip rat’ as a child - is fascinated by this historic debris and its key learnings. Since 1996 the Mawson’s Huts Foundation has funded nine expeditions to Cape Denison to work on Sir Douglas Mawson’s huts. Highlights of the conservation work that has been undertaken include stabilisation of the Main Hut and other key buildings, snow and ice excavations from the interior and the first on-site conservation treatments of objects from the interior of Mawson’s Huts.

Join Ian for this presentation that comes complete with images of stunning Antarctic scenery and wildlife, including the amazing ‘flying’ penguins!

COST: $12 per person. Please join us for refreshments after the lecture.
