Life along the Leeuwin Current: seashells of the Central West and Houtman Abrolhos

Curator of Molluscs, Aquatic Zoology

The marine biota of the Geraldton coasts and of the Houtman Abrolhos islands provide an interesting case study in biodiversity. The off-shore, south-flowing Leeuwin current and the cooler, in-shore counter-current bring to those areas different suites of marine molluscs that are adapted to these different environments.

Join Shirley Slack-Smith as she looks at how these highly diverse organisms compete with one another or even depend upon one another for a place to live and thrive.
