A small (3 cm) robust, short-legged species and with only a trace or no webbing between the toes. The parotoid and inguinal glands are moderately developed and usually connect along the sides. The back ranges from a dull tan colour to brown, and most frogs have a narrow, cream stripe dividing the head. Leg patches are red. The throat of the males is blackish.

Habitat

Open tussock grassland in areas exposed to flooding.
