The Greatest Moment in WA Sporting History Article | Updated 7 years ago Caption: The Balgera Family. Image courtesy WA Museum In the Voices gallery for the New Museum we are sharing stories about WA’s sporting history, the ways in which people from around our State participate in grass-roots sporting teams and how fans get ready for the big game. Like many Western Australians, we were excited about the opening of the new Optus Stadium. Our staff attended the event on 21 January to meet sports fans. We met almost 4,000 people and took hundreds of WA Faces portraits – this time with a sporting twist. While we talked to people about the next big State project, the New Museum, we also asked fans to tell us their favourite sporting moment in WA history. The Eagles, Dockers, Scorchers and Fever teams all rated highly, with fans recounting brilliant wins, screaming goals, and amazing catches.
