SKIRT, VEST & JACKET, mid 1860s

Ensemble of lilac ribbed silk comprising a) skirt, b) vest and c) jacket.
a) Skirt: re-made (bastardized, possibly for fancy dress); indications of former decoration applied 16cm above hem.
b) Vest: high waisted; high, round neckline trimmed with white satin piping; 7 white satin-covered buttons; lined with white calico; all seams and darts boned; a modern gusset has been let into the back to enable a larger person to wear it.
c) Jacket: short, sacque-like jacket closing only at neck with a hook and eye; the edges trimmed with lilac silk fringe and bands of white satin and self fabric; 3 pointed basques at back; characteristic curved sleeve shape, trimmed at shoulder with satin piping and at cuff with bands and curls of same white satin/self fabric; sleeves only lined with white calico.
