HAT, FUR FELT, "COWBOY"

(via Premier's Dept 5.1.79) Plum red fur felt "Cowboy" hat worn by the late Sir William Walkley in the streets of Sydney when oil was discovered at Rough Range, W.A. in 1953. Sir William, or the then Mr. W.G. Walkley was the founder and Managing Director of AMPOL Exploration when oil was discovered. He had promised to wear the hat in Sydney streets if oil was discovered.
