CORE SAMPLE

T1979.2

(via Premier's Dept. 5.1.79). Belonged to the Estate of Sir William Walkley, then Mr. W.G. Walkley, who was the founder and Managing Director of AMPOL Exploration when oil was discovered at Rough Range, W.A. in 1953. This core sample was from Barrow Island, W.A. which became the State's first commercial oilfield. Oil discovered on Barrow Island 7 July 1964. 100 millionth barrel produced 5 Aug 1974.
