MEDAL, WILLIAM, DUKE OF CLARENCE

Medal struck in honour of William, The Duke of Clarence, Lord High Admiral, before he became William IV. On obverse, the head of William in the style of a Roman Emperor. Printed around the edge, "H. R. H. WILLIAM HENRY DUKE OF CLARENCE LORD HIGH ADMIRAL OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND. / GEOR: IV: REX: MDCCCXXVII" (reigning monarch). On the relief of the lower neck, "HENNING. F". On the reverse is Britannia standing on the waters, holding a shield and trident and a small branch. In the background are two rigged galleons. Around the edge, "HER MARCH IS O'ER THE MOUNTAIN WAVE. HER HOME IS ON THE DEEP". Fearon states that the medal is by J HENNING.
