ARCHEMEDES DRILL

H1995.416

Drill attached to chuck end. Drill with chisel point sharpened both edges. Movement of drill cuts both directions. Drill has straight steel tube with circular brass plate and chuck at blade end. The drill is driven by a wooden handle with hole in centre that fits across steel tube. The handle has a band of leather that is attached to both ends and thread through the main steel tube and top. The movement that powers the drill is achieved by twisting the handle and thus the leather band around the steel tube and pushing the handle down, creating a repetitive motion that turns the drill clockwise and anticlockwise with alternating handle movements. The brass plate has 'FRANCE' printed on one side.
