[.1] TOP HAT, black velvet hard top hat with felt hat band, black ribbon edging to brim and inner cream silk lining with leather band inside crown. Fitted with elastic to inner back of hat, ends tied in a bow. Manufacturer's stamp to inside crown of hat 'BY SPECIAL APPOINTMENT'/ LINCOLN BENNETT & CO./ Sackville Street,/ PICCADILLY, / LONDON' printed inside a shield shape below a lion and unicorn crest. Printed below 'GALL & CO./11 St. George's Road, / Charing Cross,/ GLASGOW.'

[.2-.3] HAT BOX, and LID,
Brown leather hat box with exterior in extremely poor condition, crumbling and delaminated. Oval shaped box with detachable lid, thick leather strap/handle to top of lid, metal buckles to each end. No strap attachments remain. Inside of box is in better condition with red velvet lining, ledge for supporting hat brim and deep circular cavity for hat to sit crown downwards.
Base of hat box has white paper label with black print 'FROM/THE GRAND HOTEL/ LERWICK'. Top of box has three paper address/luggage labels pasted over the top of previous labels, each torn and stained and in incomplete condition. Second label has the words 'WITH CARE' twic in blue block print and handwritten 'Professor Ross/ RMS Malina'.
