ARCHEMEDES DRILL
H1995.919
Archemedes hand drill has central metal rod with balance weight and chuck at one end, and a wooden cross bar with leather strap threaded through from one end of crossbar, through top of metal rod and to other end of crossbar. The drill is powered by twisting the leather strap around the rod and pushing the crossbar down, creating movement which powers clockwise then anticlockwise.
