HORSE RACING GAME
H1995.180
Horse racing game in circular structure with horses on revolving paper rings. The game has a coin slot for starting. The machine was powered by an engine - either steam or electric, there is a pulley attached to the structure which was powered by the engine and thus turned the horses.
In the centre of the game is 'JUDGE LABOR'S Box with signpost that reads 'NEAREST NOSE THIS SIDE/ OF WINNING POST'.
To the side of the horses are numbered flags on spring loaded rods with numbers one through to twelve plus 'DEAD/ HEAT'. These would have been used for gambling purposes.
The game's structure is painted green and pink, the horse brown , white, grey, the jockey's of various different colours. There are two black metal handles on the base of the structure, (probably for lifting) and a trap door into the central mechanics of the game which runs on a cog.
Addition 17 Aug 2012: large, round perspex lid which fits over top of game
