PLANE, Compass Smooth
H1994.101
Small coffin shaped wooden compass smoothing plane. Compass planes have curved soles for finishing the inside of wheels, coachwork, arches etc. They have been made in huge numbers.
This plane is stamped on each side with the initials 'W.C.A.'
The cutter is marked 'JAMES HOWARTH/ WARRANTED/ CAST STEEL/ SHEFFIELD'.
The iron wedge is marked 'WARRANTED STEEL'.
The cutter is 4.3cm wide.
