Wooden plane with blades.
[.a] Wooden plough plane. 'No. 9', 'A.MATHIESON&SON/GLASGOW & EDINBURGH' stamped into end. Lines are separated by a star and moon symbol. J. UTTING stamped into wood in a number of places. Plane has a wooden closed handle solid with the stock which is not usual. The adjustable fence is held in position by thumbscrews. It has a longer stock than usual with a long skate-shaped foreplate. See illustration (details in bibliography). This is an attractive plane, with decorated wood and long timber thumbscrews.
[.b] Cutting iron, 3/16 inch. Currently in the plane. Has `3' stamped into end. Also has a maker's name but this can't be read without taking it out of the plane. Has a V groove on the underside and is snecked at the top for easy removal.
[.c] Cutting iron, 1/8 inch. Marked `THOS IBBOTSON & / WARRANTED' and `3'. There is another word at the top but hammering has rendered it illegible. V groove, etc as above. d. Cutting iron, 1/2 inch. Marked THOS IBBOTSON &/ WARRANTED' Other markings at the top are illegible. V groove,etc as above.
