PLANE, Moulding, Round

H1989.209

Round plane (convex), 1/2 inch blade. Moulding plane which usually comes in a set of matching pairs, one with concave sole (hollow) and one with convex (round). A full set comprises 18 pairs (1/8 - 1 1/2 inch rising in 1/16ths) but half sets were common. These are very useful planes and were an important part of a joiner's or cabinet maker's kit. This plane was used for making the grooves in wooden kitchen sinks. The plane is undecorated. It has a step half way down the stock and the sole is shaped to the round of the blade. The end is stamped 'ADAM.AMOS' 'A. DONALDSON' 'A P'.
