PLANE IRON, Rabbet
H1989.215
Square rabbet plane iron. Appears to have been later machined to skew. 3/4 inch wide. It appears that this was not used on rabbet plane H1989.214 donated by Mr Utting as the cutting part of the blade is too long to fit into the shavings aperture. However nail marks on the base of the plane indicate use of a fence but may also have attached another sole. The blade is not wide enough to cover the width of the plane and would only have extended to the edge on one side. On a rabbet plane the blade extends to the extreme edge of the plane on either one or both sides.
