HORN, tenor, E flat
H1989.68
Silver plated brass tenor horn. Length of intertwined tube with three integral piston valves, finger holds and a water key. The tube ends in a bell mouth. Engraved on the top of the bell mouth is the legend "Imperial / Class A / [eagle clutching a trumpet motif] / Boosey & Hawkes / Ltd / Makers / 295 Regent St / London W1 / 168459 / 21". This instrument was played by a member of the Albany Brass Band in Western Australia. It has consecutive serial numbers with H89.66 and H89.67 indicating that they were purchased at the same time, probably in the 1930s. An 'Imperial' grade instrument was one of the finest of instruments made by Boosey and Hawkes. Ray Larner, Music Director, WA Bands Assoc., ph: 457 1858 assisted in identification of instruments.
