WATERCOLOUR "Yongala"

Inscriptions: Signed and dated: "J.E. Miller / 1906" lower right corner. "Yongala" appears on hull of ship and topmast flag. Subject Matter: Single-funnel, two-masted steamer flying red ensign with Australian stars. Yellow funnel and black top = Adelaide Steamship Co. colours. Aft mast white flag, blue cross and red centre. Biography: See file. Other: Owners, Adelaide Steamship Co. Low slung in line - enormously tall funnel bolt upright - matched by two raked pole masted and stunted, chunky cargo gear on fore and aft decks. Disappeared en route between Mackay and Townsville in 1911. In 1912 a year later and almost at the same latitude its fleetmate "Koombana" disappeared off Port Hedland.
