Dress, black synthetic fabric, fitted, short style with diamante encrusted halter and gathered detail through front, 'too sexy', designed by 'Tarvydas', Perth, Western Australia, 2009.

H2018.149

This evening dress is made from black synthetic fabric. The short fitted style has a halter neckline

formed using a synthetic netting base. This netting continues down the front right side of the garment,

holding together two separate sections of  fabric, creating a sheer panel in the garment, with gathered

seams. The netting finishes above the hemline, creating a modest split with curved edges.

The netting has two rows of leaf-shaped diamantes interspersed with two sizes of circular diamantes

hand-sewn for decorative detail. The closure is an invisible zip in the left side seam. Fully lined

with polyester.

History:

This is a reproduction of a style that Tarvydas created to be sold in Selfridges in 1980 and featured

in a parade in the store (which Ruth attended) in the same year. As a result of the success of this

range Ruth opened a showroom in London. It is part of the collection that saw Ruth's label gain

international exposure and is representative of Ruth Tarvydas' figure-hugging designs and the

fashions of the 1980s. This reproduced style '3625 Too Sexy' was from the 'Tarvydas' label and

featured in the AF10 collection (this collection was sold in the United States).
