BATHING COSTUME, women’s, ruched, dark brown

Heavily ruched, elasticised, dark brown (faded dark purple/navy?) with small mermaid motif, synthetic, ‘Vetrix/BLEYLE’, women’s bathing costume. Removable, adjustable thick halter neck strap, hand-altered/repaired and attached with metal hooks to tabs on either side of sweetheart neckline. Lined bust cinched together at front by an upside-down V of ruching down the centre of suit, finishing at hips. Pulled thread on side of right breast. Some pulled threads in ruched V stitching. Sides and back of suit heavily ruched with thin internal elastic. Altered white external zig-zag stitch 130mm across ribs/waist, front and back. Back has extra grey zig-zag stitching (200mm maximum width) through centre to top of leg holes. Small mermaid motif on front, near left hip. Straight back, with heavy ruching to gusset. Some faded areas of fabric, particularly waist to lower back, front and back. Pulled thread at top of right leg hole (external and internal threads). Internal: Some hand-alterations/hand stitching to left side of left breast, where it meets internal ruching. Hand-repaired seams on both sides, at end of sweetheart neckline. Three maker’s labels sewn into seam at side of left breast. 1) ‘42/44’, on both sides of label, size? 2) Top: ‘Vetrix/BLEYLE’, Reverse: ‘Schwimm-und-Strand-Bekleidung/SWIM SUITS and PLAY CLOTHES/ Made in Germany’ 3) very twisted, ‘PERLON/vict bügeln’ (?), plain on reverse.
