PRINTING BLOCK, U.K, Coat of Arms, wood, metal

H1996.416

Metal printing plate nailed in six places to a rectangular wooden block. Block is made of 15 thin pieces of wood - veneer style. Plate features the United Kingdom coat of arms. A central shield is divided into four. Top left are three lions in a row. Top right is a lion, bottom left is a harp, and bottom right are the three lions again. Holding the shield on one side is a lion and on the other side, a unicorn. On top of the shield is a crown, flanked by a leafy decorative design, reaching out to the heads of each animal. Below is a scroll with the words 'DIEU ET MON DROIT'. The scroll is finished on one side with what appears to be a Scottish thistle and on the other, an English rose.
