BASKET, linen

H1990.43

Woven cane container, quadrant shaped, which sits flat on the floor. Twists of naturally coloured fibre/jute are woven in the base. There is a band of blue painted at the top and around the base of the container and a diamond pattern woven at the centre of the curved surface. The base is timber with 4 metal studs to give a slight elevation while the lid is plywood (fashioned from a tea chest lid?) with a wooden cotton reel handle attached by a screw. The interior is plywood, with each of the 3 surfaces having 2 airholes. The brown painted lid appears to be an improvisation from a later date.
