a. Blue box with writing and pictures in white. Pictures of cards on front. Information on lid includes 'A KIDDICRAFT "SENSIBLE" TOY 5-10 years DESIGNED BY HILARY PAGE / K.373 / Kiddicraft / MADE IN ENGLAND / LEARNING TO READ should be as spontaneous as possible. The first stage is to let a child relate the / printed word to the actual article. Let him play with the cards in his own way and in his own time. / Let him colour the pictures with crayons or paints, or trace them, or copy them, and gradually he will learn the words. Do not spell the words to him letter by letter. He should learn the words visually.' Box has '114' written in blue ink in the top left hand corner, and '12/11' in pencil in the top right corner. b. 101 white cards. Each has 'Kiddicraft' printed in the top left hand corner, a large line drawing of an object in the centre, and the name of the object printed in bold along the bottom. The first letter of the name is in capitals and the remainder in lower case. All in black ink. The objects are commonly used words such as book, nail, tree, sword, window, rose and orange. The toys were used by Miss Frances Rogers. Miss Rogers, born on 19 Oct 1904, went to Teacher's College in 1930 and joined the Education Department of W.A. in 1934. Between 1934 and her retirement in 1967, she taught at various country schools, took special classes for deaf and dumb children in Mosman Park, and classes for mentally and physically disabled children in Leederville. She also made and purchased a large collection of puppets which were used as teaching aids. These are accessioned under numbers H88/613 to H89/307 (not inclusive).
