A board game for 2, 3 or 4 players. a. The box. This comprises a lid, and base. Attached to the base are four rectangular cardboard containers. These sit around the board hold the pegs. On the lid is a large picture of a man in a suit and smoking a pipe playing the game with a boy and a girl. It carries the following details : '"PEGIT" / AN INTERESTING / AND AMUSING / GAME OF SKILL / FOR 2, 3 OR 4 PLAYERS'. It also has the word 'MERIT'contained within a scroll with 'JR' on the seal and underneath that the maker's name and 'MADE IN ENGLAND'. '18/-' is written on the lid in crayon. 'F. ROGERS' is written in blue biro. It also has a white sticker 'ARNOLD11 6/73173' which looks much newer than the remainder of the game. Inside the lid are the 'RULES OF PLAY'. These include 'The object of this game is to get five consecutive pegs of one colour in a / straight line-in any direction.' b. The board. This is made of strong brown cardboard and is divided into 256 squares each with a hole cut out of the centre in which the peg rests. Along two vertical sides the squares have been numbered from 1 to 16 consecutively. c. The pegs. Made of plastic in the form of a cylinder. The bottom section of the cylinder is narrow to fit into the holes in the board, the top section is wider to enable it to sit on top. On the top of each peg the letter 'R' is moulded into the plastic. The pegs come in sets of four different colours, red, orange, blue and green. There are 24 green pegs, 16 blue, 24 orange and 22 red pegs. This makes a total of 86 pegs. The toys were used by Miss Frances Rogers. Miss Rogers, born on 19 Oct 1904, went to Teacher's College in 1930 and joined the Education Department of W.A. in 1934. Between 1934 and her retirement in 1967, she taught at various country schools, took special classes for deaf and dumb children in Mosman Park, and classes for mentally and physically disabled children in Leederville. She also made and purchased a large collection of puppets which were used as teaching aids. These are accessioned under numbers H88/613 to H89/307 (not inclusive).
