JACKET, Fake Fur

H1989.1044

Short jacket with narrow sleeves widening at top and gathered into shoulder seam. Short collar which may stand up or turn over. The front is cut so that it buttons up slightly left of centre. There is a slit at the lower part of the centre back seam. The back is shaped with six gored pieces, the front isn't shaped. The back is tailored to fit the waist and then flares out. There is one pocket flap on the left side, the other is missing. The coat is fully lined with brown cotton. The lining at the right front is stitched in a flap hidden behind the fur which enables the buttons to be hidden. The buttons are rounded and the top is self covered. The underneath is a fine covering of thread reminiscent of the thread covered buttons of the early nineteenth century.
