MEMORIAL WINDOWS, York

H1988.373

Main panels depict scenes from Christ's life, (square / rectangular). 3 bottom panels (rectangular). Commemorative words; 1. "Erected by Mrs W. Edwards" 2. "To the Glory of God in Loving Memory of her Husband". 3. "Who Died Dec 9 1889." In 1990 these windows were to go on display in Fremantle Museum, Finnerty Street, and a label to be written by Pip Brennan. In order to find more provenance, the descendants of the Edwards family were contacted: only Mr Keith Edwards, 191 Wellington St, Mosman Park, ph. 384 6820 was contacted. The other two descendants, Mrs Nelma Davies, P.O. Box 110 York, W.A. 6302 and Mrs Nancy Monger, Unit 12, 26 Barnfield Road, Claremont, 6011, ph. 385 1192 were not contacted, but would be better sources of information than Mr Edwards. If the windows are displayed, all three would be interested to know. When Mr Edwards followed up the phone call with a visit, he allowed P. Brennan to photocopy some documents; one was a brochure prepared on the church, the other an excerpt from a family history. The family history supplies the information that four years after the death of Mr Edwards, in 1893, extensive additions were made to The Holy Trinity Church and the widow Jane Edwards was invited to lay the foundation stones of the Chancel, Bell tower, vestries and organ chamber. At this time, Mrs Edwards gave the windows to be fitted in the new Sanctuary. They depict scenes from the Gospels, the nativity of Christ, the childhood and ministry of Jesus, His Passion and Death, and His Resurrection and Ascension.
