Title 'THE/HOLY BIBLE/CONTAINING THE /OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS;TRANSLATED OUT OF/THE ORIGINAL TONGUES/.../BY HIS MAJESTY'S SPECIAL COMMAND'. Large, tooled leather. Light brown cover edged with flowers and leaves and a central, linear panel of the same design. Page edges gilded.1187 pages. The first two pages of the bible are loose.

[.2] document, family tree; Front page records a small cutout of the Clifton Crest,( a peacock/black bird with motto) glued to top, right hand page. Hand written records of Clifton family marriages, and deaths follow, commencing with a record of 'William Carmalt Clifton, his arrival in Albany, building 'The Mount' and marriage to Sophia Harriot Adcock Clifton in 1851. It records the birth of 'Agnes Harriott', of 'Ethel' and her marriage to 'Albert Hassell' in 1878. Back of this page records the birth of subsequent children: 'Kate Fleming?' born Mauritius. The following were all born in Albany: "Ada Marian' 1961, married "Evelyn Innes', "Gervase" 1863 ,"Francis Bingham' 1868, 'Robert' 1870. The title page of the bible also records the birth of 'Arthur Benjamin' 1872 & deaths in newspaper cuttings of "Beryl Mary Clifton' in Maritzburg, South Africa.

The back of the bible has handwritten family records dating from 1820 noting the birth of William Carmalt Clifton 1820, his parents deaths in 1836 and 1843. His marriage to Ann Emily Mary Suepp 1846. Birth of Anne, William, Louisa. Death of Anne Emily Mary Clifton in 1850. Marriage to Sophia Harriet Adcock 1851. Births of; Agnes, Ethel, Kate, Ada, Gervase, Alvared 1865, Francis. The following page records birth of Robert Clifton April 1870, died 24 April. Marriage of Anne Emily Fanny? Clifton. The last page is ruled into columns with a heading 'The children of Anne Emily Fanny Clifton, Edward Clifton, Louisa Clifton, Agnes Harriet Hassell, Ethel Hassell and Ada Marian Innes. the marriage of Honoria Ethel and Frank Anderson.
