NIGHTSHIRT, 1823

Nightshirt of white linen; basic cut with shoulders reinforced with "leaves" and gusset inserted into square sleeves; very high collar; front opening to mid-chest level, the edges of collar and placket trimmed with frill of check-textured white fabric; 6 buttons formed of metal rings covered with needleweaving; cuffs trimmed similarly; inscribed in brown ink below opening a front "S. D. Reid / 1823". Possibly a shirt, though numbering suggests nightshirt.
