SUMMER SUIT (3 Piece)

White suit. (a) Lounging jacket. Small, rounded collar, small lapels with flower buttonhole in left hand side. Coat hanger loop at neck. 4 pearl buttons. Single breasted. 3 patch pockets, one breast and two at hip level. Sleeves slit at cuff with single pearl button. Shoulders slightly padded. Sleeves lined with cotton. Rest unlined. Back cut with central seam and 2 long darts.
(b) Waistcoat. Matches (a) medium length opening, 'V' shaped, with 4 slit pockets. Front fastening with 6 pearl buttons. Forms small 'V' at waist opening. Back and lining white cotton. Back strap and buckle.
(c) Matches (a) & (b). Waistband, cut fairly wide at top with 2 darts. Belt loops (3). Fly front with 6 casein buttons. 6 buttons for braces also. Outside seam to legs, and front crease. 43cm w (about 17") at hem. Belt loops and casein buttons suggest date circa 1919-24 (after casein and before Oxford Bags). Otherwise style as circa 1900 and Christie's thought 1900. Ref. Cunnington, 'English Costume in 20th Century' p. 262.
