WAISTCOAT, Half, in the making
CH1979.293
Tapestry fabric cut in waistcoat-front shape and two facings mounted on black silk. Embroidery (flowers and leaves of pink & green) worked in four rows at lower edge of front. When embroidery is completed the silk is cut-out around the tapestry fabric and the latter is stripped away leaving the embroidery in place (evenly worked and straight). Extra strands of embroidery silk included. Waistcoat appears to be from the 1840s-50s period but it's difficult to be certain since it is incomplete.
